Alliance Française Library, Oud Metha

Echoing the Year of the Comic Book, we invite you to celebrate the 9th Art: come read French classic or contemporary comics and experience new forms of reading and immersion through a surprising digital exhibition. Come dive into the magical world of "Machines à Bulles", an exhibition that explores digital art and questions our relationship to comic books!

16 artworks are available in French & 9 in English.

On tablets, on consoles, or in augmented reality, come discover the unbridled creativity of comic book authors who invest in the digital field, and live new reading experiences!

Enjoy an interactive exhibition and explore innovative French digital comics.  Digital comics blur the lines between all disciplines and rethink the relationship between author and readers. These new types of narratives and ways of reading open new literary creation opportunities and change the relationship between the book, the paper format, and the digital “machines”.

France is the creative birthplace of comics and stands out on the international stage as a dynamic and imaginative figure and for the quality of its productions. Many French scriptwriters, artists, publishers, and producers are now embracing new technologies and working towards producing novel creations.

From paper to screen, the comic creators keep experimenting with new types of stories, while playing with the codes of sequential narrative. Discover a selection of works that will illustrate what these typically French, new reading experiences are like. Come and try them!

Try the Virtual Reality Experience!

SENS VR is the first virtual reality game inspired by a graphic novel. You play a man lost in a maze of strange laws. What is he looking for? Where are you going?

To complete this initiatory journey, you must use both your observational skills and your imagination. You will follow various types of arrows, which are either obvious or hidden in graphic illusions.

Accused no. 2: Walter Sisulu takes you in the Rivonia Trial of 1963 in South Africa, into the courtroom to hear the testimony of ANC activist Walter Sisulu.

Illustrated in black-and-white animations with the atmosphere of charcoal drawings, with abstract animations that underscore Sisulu’s testimony, flashbacks, we truly feel what he’s going through.
