“The Glimmer of Hope”

“Every child is an artist; the problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Pablo Picasso

Turning to the history of past pandemics, responding to one evidently shreds the fabrics of society and the economy to an extent that plunges the populace into unprecedented depths of disturbances. Even more so now, as we spend much time building a semblance of recovery amidst the tumults of the Coronavirus, activist artist Zaahirah Muthy falls back on her creativity in an attempt to calm the waters. Hosted by Alliance Française, ‘The Glimmer of Hope’ is presented as her 6th solo exhibition that stands as a beacon of optimism for the creative community. Take a stroll through the vibrant symphony of colours bearing the elements of Hope, Happiness, and Healing.

As the world gradually reopens itself to a new dawn, Zaahirah revisits her artistic outburst during Dubai’s lockdown through a retrospective creation of 35 artworks documenting the fluctuations of her emotions, contemplations, and psyche during that period. Each work, albeit child-like in rendering, presents a greater depth of conceptual development that is far from childish. “We were all children once, and we still are now whenever we experience the fear of making mistakes.” Travel amidst the array of vibrant colours and allow Zaahirah Muthy to reignite that sliver of joy and cultivate the flame of hope to melt away the uncertainties amidst this health crisis.

The face of Dubai’s art scene is one Zaahirah Muthy who hails from Mauritius – an artist, activist, curator, and founder of ZeeArts rolled into one. She who campaigns for positive changes in the public arena conveys compelling messages through her art initiatives and artworks of various mediums. As the helmsman for ‘Art Connects Women’ and the brain behind two editions of the Women Artists around the World, Art Book- Zaahirah has fostered a greater platform which serves for the betterment of women-artist representations in this contemporary era.

From curatorial works to creation, Zaahirah remains at the forefront of her artistic career in all facets of her undertaking. Mostly a mixed-media artist, she has been able to adapt her art-making disciplines to painting and sculpting. With a well of knowledge and experience, she relentlessly draws inspiration from ideas of spirituality and paradigm shifts towards evoking positivity – those of geographical values and of life itself.

With exceptional aptitudes as an artist, Zaahirah hold multiple awards under her belt, amongst of which was the ‘Leonardo Da Vinci Universal Award’ in Florence, Italy, and the Femina – Women International Leadership Award (Artist Category) in India. In 2016, she was awarded the Artist of the Year by RAK Fine Arts Festival.  The artist was also the recipient of Oscar de la Jeunesse in Artistic Pursuit and Youth Leadership award by the Government of Mauritius. Zaahirah has had her art in private and corporate collections, and exhibited in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, United States, and Asia.
